On this tour with private transportation we will visit the north coast of Taiwan, including a curious geological park with amazing rock formations, a small town built in an old Japanese gold mine, and Jiufen, a picturesque town in the mountain that looks like something out of the movie “Spirited Away” by master Hayao Miyazaki.
In the morning we will head towards the north coast of Taiwan to visit Yeliu, a geological park that houses numerous rock formations with surprising figures, result of marine erosion over the centuries.
After visiting Yeliu we will enter the mountains of northern Taiwan to discover the remains of an old Japanese gold mine. We will visit this site, exploited during the Japanese occupation of Taiwan. The Japanese built a small town around the mine, and several traditional houses, one of them prepared to host the visit of the prince himself.
Finally we will visit the photographic town of Jiufen. This small town is located on the mountainside, and enjoys stunning views of the shores of the Pacific Ocean. Jiufen houses a market along its main street, where we can sample local delicacies – such as pineapple cupcakes or a meatloaf with rice paste – and visit the workshops and shops of artisans who have settled in Jiufen. The town is famous for the traditional tea houses hidden in its winding alleys, and for the red lanterns decorating its streets, which infuse Jiufen with a special charm.
